COVID 19 Deepdene Surgery Billing

BACKGROUND ABOUT TELEHEALTH MEDICARE REBATES:

When the Coronavirus pandemic started to pose a threat to Australians earlier in 2020, the Federal Government introduced Medicare rebates for telehealth medical and allied health services. This was to allow patients to access medical and allied health care from their homes and reduce the risk of infection to you (the patient), health care workers and their staff, and also to allow the Medical businesses continue to care for patients. The introduction of the telehealth rebate was very welcome and embraced by the medical community and for that we are very thankful.
The Government afforded Telehealth Medicare rebates for GENERAL PRACTICE services on the condition that GPs bulkbilled certain groups : patients over 70 years, Children under 16, ATSI patients over 50 years, patients with chronic diseases or who are  immunosuppressed, Pregnant women, Parents of children under 1 year of age, and people at risk or isolated due to COVID-19 infection.
(There was no requirement for allied health professionals or medical specialists to bulkbill.)
Patients attending for face to face consultations could be charged as per the usual clinic rates.

From October 1 2020, The Government has announced Telehealth Medicare rebates will continue to be available, at least until the end of March 2021.

The requirement for GPs to bulkbill the groups mentioned above has been lifted.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME?

From October 1 2020 Deepdene surgery will resume privately charging patients for face to face and telehealth consultations, similar to how you were charged before the Coronavirus crisis.

If you are a pensioner, you will be charged a reduced pension rate.

Please see our “services “page that sets out the “out of pocket” cost for various services.

CHILDREN 16 AND UNDER WILL BE BULKBILLED FOR STANDARD CONSULTATIONS.

Due to the fact that the Coronavirus Pandemic has had significant impact on our community, for now, the Doctors at Deepdene surgery have agreed to bulkbill* children 16 years and under, until further notice, for standard consultations.

*For Weekend consultations there will be a fee.
Any procedures or complex medical care may attract a fee but your Doctor can discuss this with you at the time

CAN I COME AND SEE MY DOCTOR AND HAVE A FACE TO FACE CONSULTATION?

Yes.  This is possible and is often clinically required.  Due to the risk of coronavirus infection transmission, for now, you are required to have a telehealth consultation with your doctor before attending in person.

WHAT IF I AM OUT OF WORK OR HAVE EXPERIENCED HARDSHIP DURING THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC?

We totally understand some patients have experienced significant financial hardship as a result of the economic changes that have occurred during the pandemic.  If you are experiencing any financial difficulties, PLEASE let your doctor know at the beginning of a consultation and this can be taken into account when discussing fees. etc.
